Eating well

I  know we have a few months before she is eating sold foods, but I want Addison to eat fresh veggies and produce grown locally.  My goal is to make our own baby food and I will most likely be investing in a Beaba Baby Food Maker

A lot people I speak with say that it is difficult and time consuming to make your own food, but I was also told nursing would be hard and it has been wonderful.  I have found some great resources online with some helpful baby food make tips.

There are local companies that deliver local organic and sustainable produce fresh to your door, which is handy if I don't have time to run to H.E.B. after work.  Eric is in and out of grocery stores all day, but does not have the time or cooler to buy groceries.  By the time he is off work, the last thing he wants to see is another grocery store.

Our fabulous friends ( Scott & Tara) are great about feeding their daughter, Mariss, healthy and exciting foods.  I know with lots of advice from Tara we will become pros like them.  They are big fans of Happy Baby organic baby food and snacks.

Handy Timesaving Snacks

These snacks need very little or no preparation at all, and are prefect grab-and-go options

Frozen Grapes

Steamed Sugar Snap Peas or Edamame

Hummus with Pre-Cut Veggie Sticks or Pita Chips

Sesame Coated Nuts

Unsweetened Dried Blueberries

Build-Your-Own Snacks

These healthy choices only require a few steps, no cooking required, and really pack a punch. When selecting ingredients, try to buy them with the fewest preservatives possible, and remember you’ll need to consider refrigeration.

Apple Slices & Cream Cheese

Banana Slices & Peanut Butter

Graham Cracker & Peanut Butter Sandwiches

Cheese Cube Kabobs

Baked Goodies

I cannot wait to start baking with Addison.

Baked Fruit (when in season, add peaches)

1 Apple, cored and roughly chopped

1 Pear, cored and roughly chopped

1 Small Orange, halved and peeled

1 Banana, sliced

6 Strawberries, sliced

3 Teaspoons Unsweetened Orange Juice

1 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon

5 Tablespoons Plain Granola

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Place all fruit in a shallow ovenproof dish. Add orange juice and toss to coat fruit. Sprinkle cinnamon over the top.

Cover the dish with foil and bake in the oven, stirring occasionally, until fruit is soft. About 20 minutes.
Remove foil, sprinkle the top with plain granola, and bake for another 15 minutes.
